Judging amazing books

Some time a few weeks ago in our 2 library lessons we were judging outstanding books all so good. The reason why we were judging these books was because we were finding out which book as a upper grade won the best book for the upper grade. The 4’s all the way through to the year 6 were all judging the same book to find out which one was the best. All the books were so different. They all were talking about different topics and all so interesting.

The books that we were judging were, Make Believe, Waves, Sorry day, Bouncing back, The happiness box, Our birds.

The best book in my perspective which I scored the highest was Sorry Day. A beautiful heart touching book about a girl named Maggie and her life. The reason I chose this book for my number 1 favourite was because they had such beautiful illustrations and opened up a story about a life with beautiful meaning to it. This booked touched my heart the most it made me so grateful we have heart warming books.

What makes a good information book is that you need detail and to make it clear was you are saying. You also need to grab the readers actions by words that are really powerful.
And most importantly you need facts behind what you are stating.

Which book was your favourite and Why?

CAMP EXPERIENCE

Girls you will now find out your cabins. As the shivers creep up on me. Room 26, Hannah, Mia, Leila, Ester and Scarlet. Yay as we all with our big bags step closer and closer to our cabin. Finally door is slowly opening my the touch of a hand opening the door knob everyone rushing to have a look inside. Finally as the door wide open now. Wow as everyone saying this place is spectacular. We have a mini fridge a bathroom / ensuite, two single beds and two bunk beds a Tv but sadly no remote.

Time for the first day to start we wandered through the beautiful Sovereign Hill. First mine  tour to start down in a dark train finally stoped. I learnt many things in just one day such as, how Chinese were not treated fairly back then to other countries, I learnt what the children used to play with back then while apart of the museum. Days has gone by like a rocket. Over these passed few days I have been lucky to have amazing teachers making this the best camp.

The teachers put a lot of preparation into this camp and I am really grateful that they put there time and effort into this. I had amazing memories such as school experience, buying new things, finding gold and I was really lucky to find the smallest peace of gold while using these plants by the diggings and also going down and looking at mine tours.

Being apart of this museum was amazing the girls had to wear plats  / Braids in there hair. We dressed up in a dress and a coat on top with a apron on top of our dresses and some white pants underneath our dresses. The best thing was we got to buy some things at stores we made a wish list and then add all the cost together then the next day we gave that to our teacher and then I was all correct with the costs so I was allowed to go and buying my things. The things I bought were a candle for my mum , a bath bomb for my sister , and raspberry drops for my family.

Some PLA’s we’re :

We had to put a lot of imagination for our letters and making up a story to suit in the gold fields acting like a child on the diggings and also courage by playing along with stories. And trying to make sure we are still in our act while people were walking around. Such has girls were not allowed to run and also we had to greet people in the gold fields with ma’am when someone is married and sir for a man, and miss for someone that is not married.

If I had to change something at camp it would probably be staying more days / nights because we only stayed 2 nights and 3 days.

What would you do if you were apart of the museum on the gold fields?

Carey Celebrates Literature

We met an incredible author named Mark Wilson. I learnt heaps about what he writes and why he writes these amazing books he told use story from he elder ones and wrote book based on them. Mark Wilson is an incredible drawer with a creative mind, he taught all the year 5s and his workshop one class at a time. When 5B got the honour to go to the Mark Wilson book shop at school, after all the year 5’s we all had so much we learnt about drawing and different techniques about drawing faces, bodies. A book we talked about was Vietnam Diary whet he got the idea for the book is from his grandfather. Writing about his time at the war. The reason why he write about this is because Mark Wilson wanted to explain to her grand daughter about his dad.

At lunch time we all got the best time with our buddies. Some of the year 5’s held actives either at Metcalfe Hall or at the library. Me and my buddy did the treasure hunt were someone of the year 5’s got photos of different books and hide them all around the school. We got given a peace of paper and they had all the books that were hidden on them we write done were they are on the sheets when we found them. We also went to the library to get a badge. Overall we had so much fun.

Tuck everlasting review

Tuck Everlasting

Tuck everlasting is a book from Natalie Babbitt. About a girl named Winnie wanting adventure wanted to live the world with mystery and freedom from her ruthless family asking her to be someone she is not, asking her to be GIRLLY GIRL. But there always a Hidden secret in a book well that is the  infinity water, a water to make you live forever well that’s the tucks, a secret need to be kept. Do they keep it? Once apart of the wheel always apart of it, your in it for life. We are like stones following sheep all together as one in wired ways we are all connected, you might not know but wired things end up in wired ways. One theme is resilience and to be courages and if you want something you got to fight for it. And also don’t be someone your not.

Yes Winnie had a personality selfish and rude, but everyone has there reason we are all human beens we all make mistakes but it’s the decision we make. But we think wisely  or else the earth can fall to bits shaded every where. Winnie is only 11 meets a boy called Jessie Tuck falls in love but all on look at the age difference Jessie =17 Winnie =11 so he promised her a promise to be with him but what’s the secret and how do they active it? But in the book you come across ages from some of the characters that seem older than you think, like Jessie is he really 17.  But This book drops clues so listen closer. And you will find the answer to mystery questions.

The stranger as wise as it can be, respectful,  Winnie felt a connect with him,  but true colours shine, outside he might look nice and sound good but inside there’s a greedy man selfish and can ruins tones of life’s. But how would he do that? Why I am saying this is because he arrived at the fosters home and was all friendly by greeting then with kindness but never said his name would you trust a stranger ? Well people are not who the think they are.

Treegap a wheel not a simple wheel a special wheel. What does it hold? we’ll see, we are all related in some way, the tucks and Winnie have a special connection one that holds many secrets, the tucks call her apart of her family but once apart of the wheel there’s no way out, and if something goes wrong with one of the people the wheel will break, in some form of way you need each other. So how is the stranger and Winnie related well you got to find out, and what happens next?

Tuck everlasting is a book you need to read without a doubt you would not be able to put it done, magic feels the air and things come alive danger is one its way, but how do they solve it? And do they need each other? Well that I will leave up to you to read.

Remember who would you trust Winnie , Tucks , Stranger, But chose wisely or things start you go bad?

Buddy reading ( Carey Celebrates Literature Festival )

Me and my buddy Ava, was reading a book called Giraffes Can’t Dance. The book was about a giraffe named Gerald, wanting to dance but everyone was saying he couldn’t and they laughed at him and made fun of him. Then one day he listened to the swaying grass , the trees and listen to the sweetest music while the branches breeze and all the sudden he stared to dance and then he showed everyone and they were amazed and asked him how do you that. Out of 10 we give the book 10/10 because it tells you never give up your dreams. Hannah and Ava

Decimals number line

The reason why I put the arrows where I put then is because most are higher then the number like = 0.405 is begged than 0.4  (5 thousands bigger).  I put the number 0.1 to 0.9 to help me know. Where half way is and where the numbers go.

Where do you see decimals  in your life?
